Our interactive and colourful engage-Conference will take place on 24 June 2023 from 9:00 to 16:30. The conference will focus on social innovations in the energy transition. You are cordially invited to attend the event for free. You can expect a wide range of workshops, from participation opportunities for citizen energy beginners to communities and citizen energy for advanced participants. The highlight of the programme will be the launch of the Energiewende-O-Mat - an interactive decision-making tool for interested citizens who want to get involved in an energy transition project and a keynote speech by the Parliamentary State Secretary Stefan Wenzel. The day will be rounded off with an excursion to a citizen energy PV open space project.

The engage conference takes place as part of a long civic energy weekend with the civic energy convention the day before with Max Uthoff from "die Anstalt" as the evening programme. More information about the engage conference

WORKSHOPS
WS 1

No utopia - A Socially Just and Intersectional Energy Transition

Speaker: Kiara Groneweg (Women Engage for a Common Future e.V.)

At the members' meeting of the Neckarwatt energy association, there are whispered interpreters, flyers and websites are translated into several languages (German, English, Arabic), the citizens' offices in Frankfurt and Bielefeld call for Tenants' Electricity Day, solar parties are regularly organised for FLINTA and energy sharing is taught in schools. What would a socially just and intersectional energy transition look like that sufficiently takes into account the needs of different population groups? How can we make such mini-utopias a reality? After a short theoretical input on intersectionality, we want to use scenarios and other creative-playful methods to work out how power structures can be reflected within our own organisation and how participation opportunities can be created for different target groups.

WS 2

Citizen energy and municipalities

Speaker: Stephanie Müller (Bündnis Bürgerenergie e.V.)
Citizen energy companies and municipalities are interesting partners for each other in the energy transition. This workshop will shed light on the respective scope for action of both actors and, building on this, will address the question of how good cooperation between municipalities and community energy companies can succeed. Opportunities and obstacles that arise in this process will be examined and the knowledge acquired will be deepened with the help of successful practical examples of citizen energy and municipalities.

WS 3

Designing activating communication projects

Katharina Wawer (Netzwerk Energiewende Jetzt e.V.)

How can we win over activists? Which target groups do we want to address and activate more strongly? How do we create an active community? Which stories fit our values? How can we publicise the cooperative and its projects? adelphi and Netzwerk Energiewende Jetzt e.V. present a practical new toolkit (toolbox) for the co-creative design of communication projects, which was developed specifically for and with energy cooperatives. The workshop is aimed at all those who want to try out the toolkit directly and also want to know how to work with it free of charge in their own citizen energy community - feel free to bring your project ideas! The toolkit was developed and applied in the BMWK-funded EMUSE research project in a series of workshops with energy cooperatives.

WS 4

Activating and involving citizens in the expansion of renewable energy systems

Michael Iovu (EWS Elektrizitätswerke Schönau eG)

The workshop will present and discuss various possibilities for citizen participation in the expansion of renewable energies. Conceivable options are, for example, participation through the establishment/membership of citizen energy cooperatives and the formation of energy communities, reduced electricity tariffs in the vicinity of a renewable energy plant, crowdfunding, etc. We want to present practical experiences from the development of renewable energies. We want to present practical experiences from our own RE projects. The participants can, for example, vote in between via ballots (e.g. via slido) or, after the presentation of different participation options, evaluate them or discuss them with each other afterwards.

WS 5

Social innovation in the energy transition

Moderation: Dr. jur. Kathleen Pauleweit (IKEM); Speakers: Dr. Arwen Colell (Co-Founder and CPO decarbon1ze GmbH), Christina Jaeger (Co-Founder and Managing Director Yunus Environment Hub)

A central theme of the engage project and the engage conference is social innovation in the energy transition. What is the next social innovation in the energy transition? What do we know from innovation research? Can other concepts be adapted to the energy transition? These questions will be addressed in the workshop and discussed in a panel.

WS 6

Community solar self-build for an energy transition based on solidarity

Speakers: Kerstin Lopau (SoLocal Energy e.V.), Christian Gutsche (Bremer SolidarStrom)

The demand for balcony power plants and rooftop PV systems remains high. At the same time, many people interested in PV have had unpleasant experiences with expensive offers from installers, dubious leasing models or no feedback at all. On the other hand, the investment discourages people who do not have so much capital at their disposal. Self-build solar offers the chance to put more PV on the roofs and to do so collectively! In concrete terms, this means that lay people take on certain tasks such as mounting the substructure and installing the modules, and are professionally guided by a self-construction initiative. This personal contribution results in savings on the investment and at the same time the construction of one's own PV system becomes a community event that people like to tell others about. In this way, community solar self-build enables a solidarity-based civic energy turnaround from below, in which more and more citizens lend a hand and organise themselves together. In the workshop, the handbook on solar self-build and the German solar self-build network will be presented. After an input, we will go into small groups and look at what solidarity-based energy management already exists in the regions, where new synergies can arise and what is still needed.
